Einleitung / Introduction

DE: Absent Face ist kein dekoratives Bild. Es ist ein Manifest, ein Fragment aus einer Zone, in der Mensch und Maschine kollidieren. Die Figur erscheint halb Soldat, halb Panzer, schwer und kantig, in ein grelles Gelb gehüllt und zugleich von dunklen Schatten zerschnitten. Das Gesicht fehlt – ausgelöscht, abwesend. Genau darin liegt die Härte des Werkes: Der Körper wird sichtbar, doch die Identität bleibt verschwunden.

EN: Absent Face is not a decorative image. It is a manifesto, a fragment from a zone where man and machine collide. The figure appears half soldier, half armor, heavy and angular, wrapped in a toxic yellow and at the same time cut by dark shadows. The face is missing – erased, absent. This absence is the essence of the work: the body is present, but the identity remains lost.

Formale Analyse / Formal Analysis

DE: Die Farbwahl ist radikal: Gelb als toxisches Warnsignal, Schwarz als Abgrund. Linien und Brüche wirken roh und unfertig – als eingefrorener Moment von Auflösung. So entsteht ein fragmentarisches Bild, das keine Ganzheit vorgibt, sondern permanenten Zerfall sichtbar macht.

EN: The choice of colors is radical: yellow as a toxic warning signal, black as the abyss. Lines and fractures appear raw and unfinished – a frozen moment of dissolution. The result is a fragmentary image that does not suggest wholeness, but makes permanent disintegration visible.

Inhaltliche Ebene / Content

DE: Die Figur des Soldaten hat eine lange Tradition in der Kunstgeschichte – meist als Held dargestellt. Absent Face bricht mit diesem Bild. Der Körper ist beschädigt, die Waffe bedroht mehr als sie schützt, und das Gesicht fehlt. Das Werk verweist so auf Krieg als Dauerzustand, in dem Individuen zu gesichtslosen Figuren reduziert werden.

EN: The figure of the soldier has a long tradition in art history – mostly depicted as a hero. Absent Face breaks with this image. The body is damaged, the weapon threatens more than it protects, and the face is absent. The work thus points to war as a permanent condition, in which individuals are reduced to faceless figures.

DE: Das Bild gehört zur Serie Residuals, die sich mit den Spuren von Mensch, Maschine und Gewalt auseinandersetzt. Absent Face markiert darin den Auftakt: eine direkte, brutale Konfrontation, bevor spätere Arbeiten stärker in Abstraktion und Auflösungübergehen.

EN: The work belongs to the series Residuals, which deals with the traces of man, machine, and violence. Absent Face marks the beginning: a direct, brutal confrontation before later works move further into abstraction and dissolution.

Technik / Technique

DE: Der Entstehungsprozess ist mehrschichtig: 1. Ausgangspunkt ist ein Gedanke, eingefangen als Skizze, Foto oder digitale Spur. 2. Es folgt eine analoge Überarbeitung mit klassischen Techniken wie Aquarell oder Radierung. 3. Danach überführe ich das Werk ins Digitale, wo künstliche Intelligenz als Werkzeug abschließende Strukturen und Texturen erzeugt. 4. Ein digitales Finish verdichtet die Komposition. 5. Schließlich wird das Bild als Digitaldruck auf Hahnemühle-Papier materialisiert und mit Passepartout und Rahmen zu einem Unikat von musealer Qualität vollendet.

EN: The process is multi-layered: 1. It begins with a thought, captured as a sketch, photo, or digital trace. 2. This is reworked using classical techniques such as watercolor or etching. 3. The work is then transferred into the digital sphere, where artificial intelligence is used as a tool to generate final structures and textures. 4. A digital finish condenses the composition. 5. Finally, the image is materialized as a digital print on Hahnemühle paper and completed with passepartout and frame as a unique piece of museum quality.

Künstlerische Position / Artistic Position

DE: Absent Face verweigert jede Anpassung. Es ist roh, unbequem, direkt – Anti-Dekor. Die Herkunft aus der Street-Art ist spürbar: Layering, Brüche, rohe Energie. Doch in Kombination mit Fine-Art-Materialität wird das Werk aus der Straße in den White Cube übertragen – ohne seinen ursprünglichen Charakter zu verlieren.

EN: Absent Face resists any adaptation. It is raw, uncomfortable, direct – anti-decorative. Its origin in street art is unmistakable: layering, fractures, raw energy. Yet in combination with fine-art materiality, the work is transferred from the street into the white cube – without losing its original character.

Fazit / Conclusion

DE: Absent Face ist ein Bild über Krieg, aber auch ein Bild über Kunst. Es zeigt, dass wahre Kunst nicht dort entsteht, wo sie gefallen soll, sondern dort, wo sie weh tut.

EN: Absent Face is an image about war, but also an image about art. It shows that true art does not arise where it is meant to please, but where it dares to hurt.

My Technique/Meine Technik

At the beginning of my work there is always a thought – an image, a memory, a feeling or an association. I capture this initial fragment in some form: on paper, on the computer, or in a photograph. It is the raw state, the trace that carries everything. Am Anfang meiner Arbeit steht immer ein Gedanke – ein Bild, eine Erinnerung, ein Gefühl oder eine Assoziation. Dieses erste Fragment halte ich in irgendeiner Form fest: auf Papier, am Computer oder in einem Foto. Es ist der Rohzustand, die Spur, die alles trägt. 1. Analogue Reworking / Analoge Überarbeitung From this fragment I develop the first forms further. I work with classical techniques such as watercolor, etching, drawing or collage. In this step I inscribe my hand, my physical gesture, directly into the work. Every line, every surface remains as a mark of my intervention – deliberately irreplaceable by a machine.
